Description:
Get Hooked on Grosse Pointe
It’s been nearly seven years since the frogs hopped into Grosse Pointe and in the summer of 2012, the fish will be swimming into our community for the GP Fish festivities.
Spearheaded by the Grosse Pointe Chamber Foundation and Services for Older Citizens (SOC), the GP Fish festivities will promote arts, culture and camaraderie in the community and will also benefit the area by increasing pedestrian and retail traffic in the greater Grosse Pointe areas. In addition, GP Fish festivities will showcase local talent and draw media attention to our community from throughout the metro Detroit area.
From June to October, nearly 50 fiberglass fish will swim into primary business districts in the Pointes. Each fish will be sponsored by a business and designed and decorated by a commissioned artist. Additionally, a preview party will be held in June and a scavenger hunt will take place while the fish are on display. Finally, the fish will be auctioned off at the auction gala in October, with all proceeds benefitting Services for Older Citizens and the Grosse Pointe Chamber Foundation.
Presently, GP Fish is now looking for artists to decorate a fish and sponsors to “catch” a fish at levels ranging from “The Angler” at $2,500 to the exclusive “King Fish” at $10,000 – of which only 5 are available.
“Everyone is excited,” says SOC Executive Director, Sharon Maier. “GP Fish is great way to bring the community together and support worthy causes at the same time. The added bonus is that the GP Fish festivities will simultaneously benefit local businesses in the community that we love. It’s so important that we all work together for the benefit of our area and its residents.”
GP Fish is established with the sole purpose of creating a Public Art Exhibition for the Grosse Pointe, MI community. Proceeds will benefit Services for Older Citizens and the Grosse Pointe Chamber Foundation. Services for Older Citizens is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping older citizens in the Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods maintain their lives in independence and dignity. The purpose of the Grosse Pointe Chamber Foundation is to receive and disburse contributions for the promotion of commerce, education, economic growth and activities for members of the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce and citizens of the five Grosse Pointe communities.
