DIO is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 1972.  DIO has managed support groups for the visually impaired and blind since 1984.  Helped by its volunteer arm, Friends of Vision, DIO currently facilitates four groups with over 150 members.  The Martha F. Gorey Resource Center shop, located in the DIO building, houses a wide variety of low vision aids.  Through a grant from the AT&T Foundation, DIO is now able to provide basic computer training for the visually impaired.  DIO's research initiatives include managing two international congresses:  The Eye and The Chip, and They Eye and The Auto.
