The ticket window first opens from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Community Center, and reservations are expected to go fast for the annual run of the Polar Express. Grosse Pointe Woods residents of all ages, and their guests, are invited to take a ride on the GPW Express Line’s exclusive route, scheduled daily from Dec. 5 to 8 and Dec.12 to 14. Departure times are 5:30, 6, 6:30, 7, and 7:30 p.m.

The trip includes a magical ride on the “train” – a brand new, heated Lake Front Park bus – leaving from the Community Center for a 20-minute tour of brightly decorated homes throughout the Grosse Pointes, accompanied by a reading of The Polar Express story. Arriving at the “North Pole,” travelers are treated to holiday refreshments and a special visit with Santa.

Reservations for specific dates and times are required for this event. Payment must be made in full at time of registration, and you must be a current Woods resident to purchase tickets. The fare is $8 per person, cash or check only. Reservations are limited to eight per household for the first three weeks of registration.

The ticket window reopens Monday, Nov. 4, during Community Center business hours — 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Fridays — until all seats are gone.
